
If you watched this year's show you may have notice a few of the Academy's logo designs. Above on left, 82nd Academy Awards show logo, and on right, Oscar logo. Both use striking visual contrast of positive and negative space to communicate. This is most appropriate for an industry based in both the visual and verbal worlds. In the design industry we call this Typographic Syntax. The arranging of elements into a cohesive whole. The 82nd logo's individual letterforms are paired and their corresponding interior counters relate to produce a delicate, asymmetrically balanced symbol. More
Being on the advisory board of AIGA Charlotte is a refreshing change from the busy position of event director in my previous years. This position allows me to be more active in a larger variety of initiatives. One contribution I am happy to make is to the column Taking Care of Business where I discuss an issue facing all independent creative shops, regardless of their practice.
